Award sponsors John Collins and Partners LLP (JCP) Solicitors nominated Headway, which works to improve life after brain injury, to benefit from the proceeds of the lavish evening, which was held at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall at the end of November 2009. A record £1,656 was raised. Lynne Morgan, Partner at JCP, said:

"The Swansea Bay Woman of the Year is a hugely important and popular event for Swansea. Of course, the main aim of the awards is to recognise the outstanding work that women do in all different sectors throughout the Swansea Bay area, but there is also the charitable aspect of the event, which is also a very important part of what the awards are all about.

“It is fantastic that people have dug deep and supported our nominated charity, Headway. It’s an organisation that does some great work both nationally in the UK and more locally across Swansea and South Wales. I am delighted that we have once again managed to break the record for the amount of money raised, and I would like to thank everyone who attended for their generosity.”

Headway offers a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care for those who have suffered brain injuries. The charity provides information, advises on sources of support, finds local rehabilitation services and offers a listening ear to those experiencing problems, as well as promoting the understanding of brain injury and its effects and lobbying for better support and resources to be made available by statutory health and social care providers.

Dave Maggs, Wales Development Manager for Headway UK said:

“The Swansea Bay Woman of the Year Awards is going from strength to strength, and we were delighted to be chosen as John Collins and Partners’ nominated charity for the 2009 awards. The money has been split between the Headway branches in Swansea, Bridgend, and our new branch in Carmarthen. To raise such a significant amount in what is currently a difficult financial and economic climate for many is a great achievement, and Headway is extremely grateful for all this support.”

The Swansea Bay Woman of the Year awards present a unique opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women across Swansea Bay.
